A project examining the activities of the North East Maritime Trust. Starting in October 2024, Hazel Plater and Elias Mallo Tardiveau were welcomed on regular visits, where they witnessed the charity restoring and repairing regionally important historic boats and building new boats for the South Shields Sea Cadets. These photographs document the volunteers, who have found their community in the process of working together.
Donations are welcomed to help the North East Maritime Trust continue its work, Registered Charity No. 1117855: https://nemaritimetrust.org.uk/

The Durham Coalfield
In a time of political change and deepening uncertainty, this work explores former mining communities - places shaped by coal, solidarity, and a long history of endurance. It honours the proud industrial heritage while confronting the lasting impact of deindustrialisation and the growing social and economic challenges routinely ignored by those in power. With little meaningful investment or leadership from above, it is local networks and community ties that continue to hold people together.

A series started in 2023, the majority of this work was made in 2024. A selection will be exhibited in 2025. Limited edition zine published by Canny Sunny Press. Now seeking publication as a photo book.
