In recent years, Newcastle photographer Hazel Plater has spent many hours walking the streets around St James' Park football stadium and selected other locations, with her camera. Sometimes met with bemusement, other times unbridled joy, the resulting photo exhibition, entitled Toon Fans United, features compelling crowd, group and individual environmental portraits of football fans, both candid and engaged, uncovering the deep sense of identity and community forged through a shared love of a football team.
The Toon Fans United exhibition, 16 framed prints selected from photographs Hazel made for the project in 2022-24, is touring the local area.
